Pioneering Practice
Called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1978, Blake Bromley's legal practice initially focused on personal tax, estate planning and wills. This background was ideal to prepare him for providing sophisticated tax and legal advice to charities. Because Blake had always been actively involved with charities internationally and in Canada, he knew he wanted to serve the benevolent sector in a professional capacity. Blake's decision to pioneer the field of charity law was reinforced as he learned how little sophisticated tax and legal advice was available to charities. Blake's personal experience and family influence contributed to his understanding of the ethos and real world needs of charities, and added a unique dimension to his technical legal advice. In 1986, Blake moved to Douglas Symes & Brissenden and became both a senior partner and a recognized leader in the field of charity law in Canada and abroad.

Evolving Beyond Legal Services
Although Blake enjoyed providing legal services to charities from a prominent law firm, he was increasingly retained by both charities and donors to broker large planned gifts. As a consequence, Blake left Douglas Symes &  Brissenden in 1995 to create Blake Bromley Consulting Inc. (now Benefic Strategies) which provided specialized services in tax planning, the negotiation and closing of large planned gifts, as well as strategic advice relating to the proper structuring of fundraising vehicles. At the same time, he also created QDDQ Services Inc. (now Benefic Compliance) which helped organizations achieve charitable registration and handle annual maintenance and compliance issues in Canada's complex regulatory environment.

Developing trends in the benevolent sector created A Need for Benefic Group. Building on the past but focused on the future, Blake Bromley launched Benefic Group in 2005.
