Principal, Benefic
Lawyers
Kathryn Chan obtained a J.D. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2001
and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2003. She has worked as a law
clerk at the British Columbia Court of Appeals and has practiced in the areas
of employment, administrative and human rights law. She has published articles
on the subjects of religious charitable purposes, religious freedom, and legal
approaches to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
In
2004-2005, Kathryn studied at the McGill Institute of Comparative Law, focusing
on differing notions of what is 'charitable' in Canada and abroad. She intends to
complete her LLM thesis in 2006 but is constantly being distracted by the
demands of being a co-founder of Benefic Lawyers.
