Why all good work isn’t considered equal. Should Free the Children founders really be under fire for non-charity social ventures?

Imagination is not a word people tend to associate with the Canadian Revenue Agency.

This is proved time and again. Most recently, in this week’s Globe and Mail’s feature about brothers Marc and Craig Kielburger, co-founder and founder respectively of the Free the Children Foundation.

I have never met Marc or Craig Kielburger and have had no dealings with Free the Children or other organizations related to them. However, I have practiced charity law in Canada and around the globe since before Craig was born. So, I immediately identified with the line in article that said, “as the Kielburger empire has grown, it’s run into the limits of what the Canadian system imagines a charity able to do.” Read more…
