Authorities should act in Ujjal Dosanjh case

The violent threats against Ujjal Dosanjh have reminded us that the type of religious extremism that gave rise to the bombing of Air India 182 still lingers in Canadian society.

Political commentators such as Rafe Mair are demanding that the Sikh community end extremism, but that addresses only one part of the solution. It also inadvertently stigmatizes those Sikhs who have refused to import the political battles over Khalistan to Canada. The vast majority of Canadian Sikhs do not condone this sort of behavior, and in fact, came to Canada specifically to build a new life free from these tensions. Read more…
